I needed to draw this to vent a bit.
I love video games but after reading web articles and magazines I still feel like an outsider peeking in at the boys-club mainly because of things like this cropping up in every second to third article...

"Over there, there's broken bones, there's only music so that there's new ringtones"
This is very true. Nerd culture really does a lot to alienate women that participate in it.
It's kind of strange, I'm in school for video game design set to graduate with my four year degree here in a few months, and in all my time here I've had to maybe call guys on sexist bullshit a total of three times...Most of the guys in the program, and I'll admit so few of the people in the program are female that I pretty much know them all by name, are your typical gamer nerds (and hence a lot of them never manage to pass the program at all) and I still don't see a whole lot of this. I don't know, my inkling is that they dare not say those kind of things in a classroom setting where they could destroy their reputation with a teacher. Regardless, makes for talking about games with people a hell of a lot easier when they keep that kind of stuff to themselves in that environment....See, I knew there was a reason my favorite teacher in his infinite wisdom told us to not associate with those kind of people lol.. Saves me from the migraines at least :P
This is so true. And they act like it's impossible to create articles and the like that appeals to both genders - the old "but mostly boys play games!" is getting a bit old as well. They create an excluding enviroment and defends the excluding enviroment with the argument that the people excluded from the excluding enviroment aren't as interested in being there as the people who are included in it. Ticks me right off.
